The Mate and I have just spent the last weekend (a luxury extended version) in London, while MM’s grandmother babysitted back home. Child free travels are not an actual goal in the future, but oh my, it was a bliss this one time. We spent our time well, which translates to wandering around hand in hand, frequenting restaurants and shopping a little. I will admit to dragging the route past all the yarn shops in my knowledge… it ended up being rather good excersise since several of them were a good way off our normal way, and one was even closed.

None of us had visited Windsor Castle before, so Saturday was play-the-normal-tourist-day and we went on a day-trip. It was interesting, beautiful, big, and gold decorated, but the best part was, in my oppinion, the sensation of wandering around this massive castle. Other top experiences were the visit in St. George’s Chapel and of course the steak and ale pie we ate for lunch. You get rather hungry from going over brocade, leaf gold and carvings for several hours.

I happen to be a rather big fan of the time travelling alien know as “the Doctor”, which meant that when I for the first time in my life saw and actual police phone box, I just had to have a picture… just bad luck that the content wasn’t the same… or that might be good luck, considering that the Mate was there too!

Though spring finally seems to be approaching it is still good to have some warming pieces for the exposed limbs. I have played around with stranded knitting lately and have come up with this set of mittens and a hat. So far the pattern is only available in English, but hopefully it will soon be available in Danish too.

  • Heartgate Set
  • Mønster/Pattern: Heartgate Hat + Heartgate Mittens (Ravelry links) by Lykkefanten
  • Garn/Yarn: Malabrigo worsted, col. Sunrise + Cabernet, (160 g dvs. man kan få hele sættet ud af et bundt af hver farve / 160 g in total, which means you can knit the entire set with a skein of each colour)
  • Pinde/Needles: 3.25mm og 3.5mm for lufferne, 3.5mm og 4mm for huen / 3.25mm and 3.5mm for the mittens, 3.5mm and 4mm for the hat
The whole thing started because I wanted to learn how to make a two-colour knitted braid, but then I needed a project to place it on. That became the mittens. When they were finished I felt like making a matching hat, soft and warm. Now I’ve got a wonderful set, which makes me really happy. And it has already kept me warm on my way to and from work several days.

Small socks are just quicker to knit, so when you have to make a lot of pairs, a thing to try is to go smaller.

  • Mini earring socks (Ravelry link), # 20 for 52 pair plunge
  • Mønster/pattern: min egen standard sokkeopskrift bare skaleret ned / my standard sock pattern just scaled down
  • Garn/yarn: Malabrigo sock, boticelli red, 3 g = 0.015 % for Sock-O-Meter
  • Pinde/needles: 1½mm metal DPNs
  • Noter/notes: det var sjovt at strikke disse bittesmå sokker, men hold da op, hvor var det også hårdt for fingrene at arbejde med så små pinde… jeg er ikke sikker på, at jeg vil bytte i forhold til min almindelige sokkestrikning / it was fun knitting these tiny socks, but it was also very hard for my hands to work with those tiny needles. I’m not sure I’d like to trade compared to my normal sock knitting.

And now some of you, who’ve been following this closely, might be thinking “hey, where’s pair no. 19?”, and they would be right. I never got around to showing them before now. It is a pair of socklettes in several bits of left-over yarn with a little cable to keep my interest going. Not very pretty, but I’ll show a picture anyway.
