The new year is nearly two weeks old. I have many hopes for this year – some which will probably come along quite easily, others which I know I will have to work to achieve.

2019 was in many ways a good, but really hard year. It wasn’t (and isn’t) easy to figure out how to be a mother of 3, partner to my wonderful husband, hold up a full time job and at the same time have some time for myself and the things (apart from the above) that makes me happy – among these to be creative and play with knitting.

I can’t really say that I have found the perfect solution, but there are good omens so far. We have gotten better nights (yay, more sleep) and that gives more energy during the days. And to top it off I have made a pretty good new years resolution – one that is guaranteed to make me smile: I have promised to knit and draw every day!

The knitting is probably pretty obvious, but I also love to draw and is – if I am allowed to say so – pretty decent at it. I have drawn lunch box drawings for the boys earlier, and in some ways it’s what I do again, but the difference is that previous I drew to please them, and now I draw to please myself – the shift in perspective makes a huge difference.

I can feel that I get a lot out of taking some time to myself and doing something that satisfies my creative urge – it makes me happy and actually somehow gives me more energy to tackle the everyday humdrum. So hopefully I’ll make both more drawings and finish more knitting from this simple promise to myself.
