It has been more than a month since Signe and I and ‘Sjaler Nordfra’ went to Fanø Knitting Festival. Sometime times run away and it can take a long time to digest an experience – and to be honest the concussion I got shortly after the festival didn’t help either (I’m much better now, thank you).

But Fanø was so fantastic, that I can’t just pass it by in silence. It was the first time I went to a knitting event as more than just a participant. And besides being there as a professional, I had my book to present. It was the most amazing experience. People came and saw and examined the shawls and tried them on, and sighed and marveled – I got to be so high on compliments that I was dazed.

A very big part of the key to the success is Signe. She had thought and planned and prepared a brilliant booth, which showcased all Rauna’s products very well, and solved the problem of how to showcase 18 shawls on 3×3 meters. Signe has been a master and magician with regards to presentation, and it has been a delight being able to let her run with it, as she’s amazingly good at it (which I, on the other hand, am not).

It was long days – but we were good to give each other breaks, so I actually got to see a bit of the rest in the big bazar tent, and I also managed to shop a little bit. We didn’t see the rest of the festival – that’s the problem when you have a booth and the festival covers the island. But we did get to enjoy Fanø even so, for we made it a tradition to take a trip to the beach and enjoy the ocean and sky and magnificence (and perhaps take a wee stroll in the water).

Thank you so much to all who came by and said hi. You were the reason this experience was as fantastic as it was.

Our vacation this year has been long and good. We have had plenty of time to relax and enjoy being with each other. The everyday bustle has begun anew, but we have many wonderful memories from the vacation to tide us over.

Our travelling took us to England and Wales. We rented a small campervan and meandered around the countryside. We started in the northern part of Wales and enjoyed mountains and castles, brilliant sunshine and clouds. Incredibly beautiful landscapes, narrow roads, and stone walls everywhere.

After Wales, we drove south and travelled around Cornwall. Beautiful coasts, more castles, and charming towns were on the agenda.

I had quite a bit of knitting with me in the luggage, more than I ever needed – especially since I didn’t knit that much. The days were filled with new sights, so we were all tired and sleepy in the evening and usually crept into bed early. Though I looked for a yarn shop, I didn’t manage to visit one (I think that’s the first time this has happened in more than 10 years), but even that don’t mar the loveliness of this vacation. It was an uncommonly wonderful time.

We can recommend looking into an English Heritage overseas visitors pass, if you – like us – love visiting historic sites, castles (whole and ruins) and especially if you think of visiting Stonehenge.

The anemones are long gone in the forest. It is officially summer on the calendar. Bright days and light nights. Time disappears through my fingers, if I don’t hold onto it – and especially since I ran directly into a rather hefty dose of stress with all that that entailed. It is hard for me to find myself again, so at the moment I’m trying to ease myself back in, and just practice relaxation, taking it easy, not to have a bad conscience (which is rather the hardest part), enjoying having time to knit (a lot) and lie on the sofa and doodle with small (and big) projects that make me happy.

Today I felt like dusting off the blog, which is what I’ve just done. Now we’ll see, when I reappear here on the blog next time… until then, perhaps we’ll see each other over on Instagram?

My life is full at the moment. With work, family gatherings, knitting (of course), trips to both cultural highlights with the kids and to good pokémon hunting grounds, more knitting, more work, sick kids (and adults), healthy kids (and luckily also adults), and time which seems to disappear before I managed half my task on the list. Perhaps the return of the light will yield a sense of more time in the days? I’m crossing my fingers and hoping.

Every year my mother and I go on an extended weekend trip. Our mission is always the same – enjoy each other’s company and listen to some good classic music live. This year we went to Stockholm. I have been there a couple of times recently, but always for work, so I haven’t actually seen the city properly since I was 10. Thus it was a great pleasure wandering around in the snow and experience it once more, talking and laughing and meandering as you do, when you don’t have many plans and all the time in the world.

We heard the Swedish Radio Symphonic (and choir) play the Epiphany galla concert, and we had a fun extra experience, as we the next day caught the last bit of the concert on television – it wasn’t even close to how fantastic it had sounded and felt in real life. I immediately thought of how utterly amazing some of the great concerts – which I have actually enjoyed on tv – would sound if I was there. That is, if I can apply the same factor to multiply the experience with. In other words, the live experience of that galla concert was breathtaking and mind blowing fantastic.

No travels without a visit to a local yarn store. My mother let herself be dragged to “Litet Nystan“, which was a really cool and pretty shop in a lovely neighbourhood. There were pretty yarns from all over the world, but also a great selection of Swedish yarns. I have a kind of principle (not that I always keep it, mind) to buy “local” yarns when travelling. My yarn purchases is mostly souvenirs, more than project related. And with souvenirs it’s a lot more fun, if it’s yarn you can’t just get everywhere. I also bought the quirky and pretty sock book #tantulltusssockor by Anna Bergman, which I have seen doing the rounds on social media – and it’s just as good, as I had hoped.

All in all it was a wonderful trip (as per usual). I feel incredibly lucky that I have a mother, who likes travelling with me like this (and that I have a husband, who supports this). We could have a blast anywhere, but Stockholm was actually a little bit magical. I wouldn’t mind a revisit some time in the future.

I always feel positive at the beginning of a year – which actually is a bit funny, as nothing has changed besides an arbitrary number on a calendar. But I usually think about the things that happened during the last year – and about all the things, that will happen (at least those that are planned to happen) in the new. I might be a hopeless optimist, but at least it’s quite nice wearing rose tinted glasses once every year.

I am pretty sure that 2017 will be an exciting year – at least for me, if all my plans hold true. For the first time, since I started being a knit designer, I have given myself actual time in my calendar for working with this – with my designs and all my knit related plans. I am honestly excited about this.

I also hope that it will be a year, where I continue to post in here. I really like my blog and the world that it opens for me. Happy New Year to all of you on the other side (even if the greeting is a bit late) – I hope you have a wonderful and giving year.

It has been a wonderful day today – especially since it’s my birthday. I have enjoyed my beautiful presents (the knitting bag with the shiny Lykkefant is a present from wonderful Signe) and the joy of casting on a new project. I am now the grand total of 33 years old (I’ve always had a fondness for palindrome numbers) and my family and workplace have been wonderful and celebrated me during the day. But I actually cheated a bit, and started the celebration last weekend, where I had asked my friends to come celebrate with me.

I had decided that I wanted to celebrate my birthday with a mini-workshop on natural dyeing with indigo. So I hired Anne from [g]uld to come and teach us a bit about natural dyeing and let us play a lot with the indigo vat and yarn. We had a blast and the hours flew by with laughter, amazingly high yarn-nerd-factor, a lot of yarn in the vat, beautiful blue nuances drying in the wind, and several discussions about whether to let the yarn remain in the vat a couple of minutes more.

Most of my guests went home with a skein of yarn, or two (or possibly more) in beautiful blue shades. We were told to rinse the yarn the next day, after the colour had had a chance to set. So I spent some time Sunday outside with a couple of buckets and a lot of water (some of it from above, but a little rain probably didn’t hurt the rinsing), and once again was amazed at how pretty the yarn had become. Today the yarn was finally dry (perfect timing), so I wound a little ball and enjoyed a birthday cast on for a Muscardinus for a friends little daughter.

img_2202

It has been the best birthday celebration in a long time, and I can only recommend to hold a party which includes yarn, dye and nerds (and I can also fully recommend the ladies from [g]uld, they are wonderful people and good at what they do). Now I only have one more question… when can I find another opportunity (excuse?) to play with some of the other wonderful shades of natural dyeing?

Vacation is one of my favorite activities! To gear down completely (almost to a full stop), go on long walks, enjoy life and family and the view and time… It is proportionally hard to get my behind back into gear now that everyday life has returned. The days fly by (again) and has been re-filled with all the little things that make up an “everyday”. But that is exactly what makes vacations so wonderful – the contrast to everyday life. And luckily I can extend the vacation feeling (at least a little) by showing you some pictures here on the blog.

Our vacation was (once more) spent in Norway – it was a good decision. The Norwegian nature triggers something good in me – makes me relax perfectly.

It is good to know that Norway wont go away – and that I’ll return in a short while, when I’m going to Oslo Knitting Festival. My fall looks to be wonderful and busy already.

I hope that all of you on the other side of this blog also have had a wonderful summer.

At the beginning of June, I went on a trip to Madrid (actually my first time in Spain “proper” – somehow a jaunt on Lanzarote doesn’t really count). I participated in a conference on quality in official statistics (yup, I’m geeky in more ways than one).

The conference was very good and interesting, which was a good thing, because it’s some seriously long days (on the plus side that means quite a bit of knitting time as you keep you hands busy and your head clear to concentrate on the presentations). The long days unfortunately meant that there was little time to explore the city.

madrid4

Somehow it’s not as exciting to be visiting a foreign capital, when you mostly get to look at it out the windows of a dark conference room.

madrid1

madrid5

I did manage to squeeze in some sightseeing – among other things because the city was alive until late in the evening. There was a good walk from my hotel to the conference, so by the simple tool of meandering a bit off the straight line I got to experience some of the mood and see some of the sights. To begin with, I must admit that the city wasn’t my favorite, but after a day or two I found that I had change my opinion – and now I’d quite like to get a chance to visit again soon.

????????????????????????????????????

Kr.

This past four days have been a wonderful minivacation (one of the Danish spring holidays) – it was sorely needed, and utterly and completely enjoyed. It was as if time stretched and lasted much longer than the four days, and there was plenty of time for relaxation (with and without knitting), playing in sand and water on the beach, eating icecream, enjoying the sun, and much more.

I hope that all of you out there have had an opportunity for a couple of days (at least hopefully the weekend) for some relaxation and general enjoyment.
