Birdsnests for TdF spinning

Today is the beginning of the Tour de Fleece (Ravelry link) an event for spinning enthusiasts and ordinary, slightly overcommitted spare time spinners (like me). I have an impressive amount of fibre that I would like to see turned to yarn before the Tour is finished, but I also have a priority project. It is 250 gram birdsnests from Yarn or a Tale in a specially commissioned colourway. It is a mix of tussah silk and merino (50/50) and my plan is to spin a fine, thin, 2-ply shawl yarn.

So far I haven’t gotten further than the prep work, where I split the nests into smaller, narrow pieces and “tease” them to prepare for the actual spinning. But as everybody knows that a job well begun is a job half…. nah, I’m not so certain that this equals half done in this case… so I’m probably just well begun!
