Sikke en fest! Eller rettere, Festival. Jeg tilbragte et par skønne dage af weekenden med at være på Oslo Strikkefestival sammen med Signe.

What a way to spend a weekend. This last weekend, I went to Oslo with Signe to join the multitude of knitters gathering for Oslo Knitting Festival.

Vi landede i sæsonens første sne, hvilket ikke gjorde oplevelsen ringere (elsker sne!) og havde god tid til at traske lidt rundt inden festivallen åbnede dørene i Oslos Hovedbibliotek – Deichmanske. Men så blev der også tid til lidt sight seeing, bl.a. en tur forbi Pickles Oslos butik og et stop på en fin cafe.

We arrived just as the first snow of the season had begun to fall, which didn’t dampen my enthusiasm one bit (I love, love snow!) and had plenty of time to walk a bit about before the festival opened the doors at Oslo main library – Deichmanske. So we enjoyed a wee visit to Pickles Oslo and a walk through the snow in the streets.

Deichmanske er et ret vildt sted til en strikkefestival. Store rum fyldt med strikkere og bøger. Markedspladsen var også en fantastisk oplevelse – skønt jeg tænker, at det må have været lidt af en udfordring for udstillerne at få sat en god bod op. Det mærkede man nu ikke meget til som strikker, for der var spændende sager nok til at kigge på og blive distraheret af. Jeg købte ikke meget, blot “Sticka Svenska Mönster” af Maja Karlsson (fra Majas Manufaktur), som også holdt et rigtig godt foredrag om tilblivelsen af bogen. Jeg faldt også for et kit til Gokstad sjalet designet af Julie Dubreux (jeg kunne ikke modstå kombinationen af vikingeskibsinspiration og garn farvet, så det symboliserede de norske fjordvande) og et sæt finurlige kort med strik-inspirerede illustrationer.

Deichmanske is a pretty incredible place to hold a knitting festival. Great big rooms filled with knitters (and their incredible sweaters) and books. The market place was also quite an experience – though I thought that maybe the vendors had their challenges fitting in the room. You didn’t notice that much as a browsing knitter, as there was plenty of good stuff to look at (i.e. be distracted by). I didn’t buy much, just “Sticka Svenska Mönster” by Maja Karlsson (of Majas Manufaktur), who also did a great talk about the journey of the book. I also fell hard for the kit for the Gokstad Shawl by Julie Dubreux with yarn from Norne (I just couldn’t resist the combined lure of a viking ship inspiration, cables, and yarn dyed to match the Norwegian seas).

Men det bedste ved festivallen var nu alle de mange strikkere, som jeg mødte og fik en god snak med. Det var fantastisk hyggeligt at møde så mange ansigt til ansigt, som Merete Monstermønster i hendes fabelagtige hvepsejakke, Marion, Ann og mange flere. Det var så utrolig hyggeligt at møde dem og mange flere til.

Jeg håber, at der kommer en festival igen næste år – jeg er i hvert fald klar på at tage derop igen.

But the very best about the festival was meeting all the great people, and getting to chat with them – Merete Monstermønster and her gorgeous wasp cardigan, Marion, Ann, and many, many more. It was so incredibly nice meeting them all.

I really hope the festival will be back next year (this was only the second year) – I for one am ready to head north again.
