Some times inspiration hits in a way that I really can’t wait to get the idea onto my needles quickly enough. Of course this often leads directly to me discovering multiple problems – the yarn isn’t right, the pattern isn’t right, the size isn’t right, the idea really can’t be done.

There are certainly potential problems enough, but that seldom keeps me from jumping with joy into a new project sprung from an idea.

This time round the knitting stars must have been aligned, as it went not only well but brilliantly! I got the idea for a sweater for the transition period for our youngest. A sweater she could use in day care on days where a proper coat would be too much, but when it still was necessary with something warm.

And it needed sparkly yarn, as AM is really into my stash of Paia from Filcolana. Actually she’s so much into it that she can find any project I have going with it and pull it from the bag in five seconds flat.

It took me less than a month from idea to finished object (a positive side effect from being working from home is slightly more knitting time), and I am really happy with the result. AM flatly refuses to wear it (she is approaching the terrible two), but that doesn’t make me any less happy with this little thing.

Now the work begins with writing the pattern, as I of course will do. And I probably will end up with casting on for another version – I have found a rather wonderful colour combination that I’m itching to knit lovely stripes in.

It has been a busy day for me, where I have been up and about almost the entire day. But I haven’t been alone in that regard, because there were rather a lot of people who spent their Saturday visiting #Knitwork16 in Copenhagen today. Many people means busy stalls and a lot of knit-talk.

I went to a talk by Annette Danielsen, who told us about her way into the knitting world and the world of knitwear designers, about being a full time knitter (i.e. that you knit as your work, you knit in your spare time, and you think about – and even dream about – knitting during the night), about her sources of inspiration (disclaimer: that would be everything), and her need for a context or framework for her work. She had a lot of good points to make and were as always an inspirational speaker – and I would joyfully have listened for a lot longer than the 30 min allotted. Afterwards I got to talk a little more with Katrine Wohllebe, among other things about her workshops, adn a bit about her beautiful new booklet “Sand”, which contains 6 designs with inspiration from the beach.

I also talked with other bloggers, knitters from far away (the US), who used the festival as a good reason to go to Copenhagen, old friends from Webstrikkerne (the web knitters), and just normal festival visitors – and I even got to “tattoo” some of them with the quirky and fun trick tattoos, that Signe has made – I got one myself as well. All in all, it was a good day to be among the knit tribe.
