Every year my mother and I go on an extended weekend trip. Our mission is always the same – enjoy each other’s company and listen to some good classic music live. This year we went to Stockholm. I have been there a couple of times recently, but always for work, so I haven’t actually seen the city properly since I was 10. Thus it was a great pleasure wandering around in the snow and experience it once more, talking and laughing and meandering as you do, when you don’t have many plans and all the time in the world.

We heard the Swedish Radio Symphonic (and choir) play the Epiphany galla concert, and we had a fun extra experience, as we the next day caught the last bit of the concert on television – it wasn’t even close to how fantastic it had sounded and felt in real life. I immediately thought of how utterly amazing some of the great concerts – which I have actually enjoyed on tv – would sound if I was there. That is, if I can apply the same factor to multiply the experience with. In other words, the live experience of that galla concert was breathtaking and mind blowing fantastic.

No travels without a visit to a local yarn store. My mother let herself be dragged to “Litet Nystan“, which was a really cool and pretty shop in a lovely neighbourhood. There were pretty yarns from all over the world, but also a great selection of Swedish yarns. I have a kind of principle (not that I always keep it, mind) to buy “local” yarns when travelling. My yarn purchases is mostly souvenirs, more than project related. And with souvenirs it’s a lot more fun, if it’s yarn you can’t just get everywhere. I also bought the quirky and pretty sock book #tantulltusssockor by Anna Bergman, which I have seen doing the rounds on social media – and it’s just as good, as I had hoped.

All in all it was a wonderful trip (as per usual). I feel incredibly lucky that I have a mother, who likes travelling with me like this (and that I have a husband, who supports this). We could have a blast anywhere, but Stockholm was actually a little bit magical. I wouldn’t mind a revisit some time in the future.

January have (so far) been tightly packed with activities – travelling, meetings, knitting, tasks, family visits, work, partying. All the good stuff, all the hard stuff – some times all at once.

A week ago, my weekend was spent travelling around Jutland in my little red car. I started by taking the ferry to Århus from Sjællands Odde, where the sun rose in magnificent purple and pink splendor. Well arrived in Århus, I managed a brief visit to two of the yarn shops (there are many more – and someday soon, I need to take time for a proper yarn crawl in Århus), Tøndering Strik (above) and Garnkisten (below). I love visiting yarn shops and seeing what yarns they carry and how they present their wares. Both shops were really great (and yes, I bought something both places).

After a brief trip to Aalborg and a overnight stay in Randers – where I was treated to the most magnificent dawn break – I was ready to visit the TEX-Stil trade show in Vejle.

jan-25-1

The TEX-Stil trade show is for yarn shops, but I am usually represented by a design or two, and it is always fun seeing if people like it. There is another reason for me to visit each year (actually twice a year). I love having the opportunity to meet and talk with my designer colleagues and other people in the yarn industry. It’s not often, I have that opportunity in my everyday life. As usual I forgot to take more than a single picture (I was too busy talking and admittedly I was also a bit tired). Filconana’s booth had placed Aniwaniwa just beside Spectra, which I found funny and appropriate, since the cardigan wouldn’t be here without all the pretty leftovers I had from the blanket.

It was a good weekend, but I am about ready for a week, where the evenings are spent in the sofa with knitting and tv, and the weekend affords sleeping late and lazy living with the family. It is my absolute goal for this week!

A couple of days ago I realised that I lacked some yarn. One could be forgiven for supposing that this is impossible with the size of the Stash residing in my home, but even that great beast has its limits. During a short search on the internet, I realised that I actually work rather close to Tusindfryd Cph, and that going past there on my way home was a viable option. I’ve followed Wenche for a while on her blog and on Instagram and have seen a lot of beautiful pictures of her new shop, so I really felt the urge to go visit in person as well.

I am really glad that I went on that visit, even though the specific yarn I was searching for still haven’t been found, but the shop was absolutely worth the trip. It is a small shop, but with a surprisingly airy feel, and a really great selection of yarn. I especially love her hverdagsuld, of which I may have purchased a little flock of skeins for a nondefined future project. I am pretty certain that this wasn’t the last time I wandered past there on my way home from work.

Rasmilla Garn & Strik (= Rasmilla Yarn & Knitting) had its official opening party of the LYS this past Friday and Saturday (why yes, two days of celebration was necessary). I only attended Friday, but it was very, very lovely. It is such a gorgeous shop, Sanne has made real. It is everything I can dream of in a yarn shop – yummy yarn in many colours, but ordered so it doesn’t overwhelm you, light and airy even though it’s small and cozy at the same time, and there is a fantastic corner, where you can sit and knit for an hour or two (or five, as I did this Friday).

The shop is situated in Hallandsgade 3, 2300 København S (Copenhagen, very close to the centre and right next to a metro station), and I can only recommend that you go in for a visit. The lovely pictures from the opening party are all due to Signe’s skill with a camera, and I’ve been lucky enough to be allowed to borrow some, as I was too busy knitting, chatting and relaxing to take any myself.

My only source of discontent is that Rasmilla Yarn & Knitting isn’t just a street away… and that I probably won’t be able to persuade the Mate to move our household to Amager just on that account. However, I can imagine that LB (little brother) and I will spend a lot of cozy time in there during the autumn, that is when he decides that he’s had enough in the womb and comes out.

I’ll just end by saying thank you to Sanne (who’s on the left on the picture above) for opening such a wonderful LYS! I really hope, it will be the success that it (and she) deserves.

Feels very appropriate to watch this at the #strikkebio the day after the mishap at the Oscars 😉
