Wow, the Kickstarter for the English version of my book has had a really good first week, and this morning I woke to the news that it is halfway funded. It is a pretty fantastic thought!

During this last week I have had many new thoughts and musings to ponder – I am in a (for me) completely new situation. If not enough people think that it is a pretty good idea with an English version of the book, it will not become a reality – and that even requires that they know of the possibility in the first place! The biggest challenge to overcome is the information gap.

I have been writing a lot on social media (I don’t think I’ve ever been so active on SoMe before in my life) – and I have been practicing writing to people, who might help me spread the news. And the most fantastic thing is, that most people have been really kind and helpful. It has been a great help.

Other things, that you can do to help me and the campaign – totally free – is:

  • Click “favorite” on one or all of the shawls on Ravelry – all the shawls are up in the library there and can be found under “Sjaler Nordfra
  • If you have knit a shawl – you can put it on Ravelry and link to the pattern – this helps people see several versions of the shawls
  • Write about the campaign on social media – link/repost/like posts and pictures about book, tell your LYS about the campaign, and talk about it with your knitting friends
  • Write a comment on the campaign site – Nordic Shawls – a knitting book

Thank you for all the help so far – without all my knitting (and non-knitting) friends, I would never have gotten this far.

I am really excited today, as the Kickstarter for the English version of my book ‘Sjaler Nordfra’ has launched.

Take a look at the Kickstarter here: Nordic Shawls – a knitting book

My publisher, Signe, and I have been working towards this moment for the past year – since just after we published the Danish book – so it’s almost a bit strange to finally be here and have the campaign live.

The English version – Nordic Shawls – will be exactly the same book as the Danish, just in English. That is it will have the 18 shawl patterns inspired by the wild Nordic nature and mythology, the beautiful drawings and pictures, a hardcover finish, and high quality print.

You can almost think of supporting the Kickstarter as a way of preordering the book, as we already have translated the book and when the Kickstarter ends in 30 days, we will be ready to send the book to the printer, so there will be very little waiting time before we can begin shipping the books.

Please take a look at the Kickstarter if you think this sounds good – there are also some rather good extra rewards tied to this campaign.

Also, if you have any possibility to share the news about this campaign, I would be very grateful, so please share it with anybody and everybody – the more the merrier.

I have long been wanting to knit another Eiri from my book ‘Sjaler Nordfra‘ (Nordic Shawls). And not only have I been wanting to knit it, I have actively been searching for another yarn to knit it with (though I sincerely love the yarn from Filcolana, that the original is knit in).

I have aquired no less than two possibilities, the first being seven shades of indigo dyed New Zealand Lambswool from g-uld… I (ahem) walked out with a handy little haul when I visited the farm a couple of weeks ago. The other possibility is six beautiful shades in British Hampshire from the little grey sheep. I bought the yarn on Fanø, where I also had several interesting talks with the owners.

I have been wondering if anybody wanted to knit an Eiri with me, so I have invited to a knit-along for this particular shawl. But since the book and thus the pattern sadly still only exists in Danish so far, it might not be of much use to English speakers (but I can hint at exciting news for you in the not to far future). If you want to follow the knitting of the (hopeful) several Eiris, follow #eirikal on Instagram.
