My life is full at the moment. With work, family gatherings, knitting (of course), trips to both cultural highlights with the kids and to good pokémon hunting grounds, more knitting, more work, sick kids (and adults), healthy kids (and luckily also adults), and time which seems to disappear before I managed half my task on the list. Perhaps the return of the light will yield a sense of more time in the days? I’m crossing my fingers and hoping.

Merry Christmas to you all. I hope that you all have a wonderful Holiday time, whether it is concentrated around Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or any other (or all) days.

Our Christmas Eve was wonderful! Beautiful and peaceful, filled with joy and energy (it’s difficult not to be, when we’ve got two happy and energy filled boys), filled with song and food and family. This morning we have all the time in the world to play – with yarn (that would be me), with books (the Mate’s great joy) and with Lego (both boys are happily building their gifts) – an absolutely perfect way to enjoy the peace of the season.

I hope that you enjoy your days out there.

Last week was spent on our first city vacation with the boys. We went to a smallish big city, Edinburgh, and it was fantastic. I have several time thought about, how amazingly a travelling experience changes, when you travel with kids. We have felt it on our summer vacations, though they often involve hiking and nature experiences. But it certainly is also the case, when you are in a city with the manifold attractions and experiences that are available in such a place.

We toured the city as well as we could, and saw castle and whisky, vulcanoes and museums. The old town is filled with beautiful, old houses, and narrow, steep closes (with and without steps). Strange and yet wonderful.

Another thing that fascinated me, was how close to the centre of the city the wilder landscape was. Holyrood Park with Salisbury Crags and Arthur’s Seat is almost in the centre of Edinburgh, and from the many heights you can easily see across the water (Firth of Forth) to the North, or to the south toward Pentland Hills. We were charmed and feel ready to go back armed with a car and some more weeks of vacation to explore the Scottish landscape. I think, we will be back before too long.

Kr.

This past four days have been a wonderful minivacation (one of the Danish spring holidays) – it was sorely needed, and utterly and completely enjoyed. It was as if time stretched and lasted much longer than the four days, and there was plenty of time for relaxation (with and without knitting), playing in sand and water on the beach, eating icecream, enjoying the sun, and much more.

I hope that all of you out there have had an opportunity for a couple of days (at least hopefully the weekend) for some relaxation and general enjoyment.

I hope that all of you have arrived well and happy in 2016 – may it be a happy, good, challenging, creative, frustrating, giving, and most importantly living year. I and my family had a wonderful New Years eve, with just the right combination of food, friends, fun, and fireworks.

It has begun to be somewhat of a tradition to go to Zoo on the first of January each year. There is always a good mood in the garden and it is cozy walking around with the other new year guests and look at the animals. The boys love it, and frankly speakning so do we. The weather wasn’t good today, but when the food is good and plentiful, and the coffee is hot and strong, everything was perfect. What are your New Year traditions here on the 1st day of 2016?

October was walks in the forest, or down to the lake to throw stones in the wather – or just play that you were fishing for dangerous fish. The woods are close by and colours of October have been beautiful and tempted us for many walks.

October has meant a new route for my daily commute. A new job and new challenges has meant steep learning curves and many laughs with my new colleagues. I am happy, but tired.

October has been a birthday month (as it is every year). We are once again parents to a 3 year old boy, who is endlessly curious, filled with energy and with a love for running around and for playing with sticks in the forest.

October has been filled with culture and family visits. Kulturnatten in Copenhagen for the first time, and the dinosaur at Zoological Museum.

October has passed by, just like my first 31 years. I have learned to make French braids on myself, but still don’t know how to balance all the things in my life all the time. I’m practising and am remembering to take a break every now and then. A month long blog break seemed like just the thing, but now I’m back again. I hope you all have had a wonderful October.

My sweet and beautiful little sister got married to her wonderful boyfriend on December 1st. It was the first day of the winter, snow was in the air, the guests were happy, and the bridal couple were beautiful and utterly sweet in their happiness.

They were married in Hyltebjerg kirke (church), which is a beautiful and rather modern church. The octagonal church room and the simple, yet pretty lighting was just the right place for them.

During the preparation for the wedding, my sister was anxious about wearing all white, she thought she’d be too pale. The dress and weil was settled, but she needed some colour. As a beginning she chose a pair of deep red shoes, and then she asked if I would knit her a matching red bolero as well. How could I refuse, and luckily I managed to knit one to both our satisfactions.

 Back

The bolero is knit in one thread of Tvinni from the middel of the back and out towards the sleeves. I’ve knit “flat” all the way and then blocked it before sewing the sleeves and picking up for the ribbing in the “body hole”.

sleeve

I am especially happy about the beading detail at the sleeve edge. The white beads make the bolero fit the dress, and the beads in themselves gives the sleeve a weight so that the drop sleeve falls perfectly. All of it is thought up by myself, but I’ve written a temporary pattern, which I hope to be able to finish at one point.

Thank you my dear sister for letting me a part of your big day and for letting me give of my time to make the day the way you wished it. Many congratulations to you both.

Imellem de to er der 11 andre, bl.a. min mormor, min mor, min søster og jeg.

LB will be baptised next weekend. We are looking forward to it, it is always a wonderful and joyous celebration. To us, it is a sort of welcome to the family and an occasion where all are gathered. Baptism and traditions are linked, and we are going to revive a tradition. I have borrowed my family’s christening gown, which LB will wear. He is the first in his generation to wear it. The last, who wore it is my youngest cousin, who had his confirmation last year. The first, who wore it is my grand uncle (my grandmother’s brother) quite a number of years ago. In between there are 11 others, among these my grandmother, my mother, my sister and me.

It has been a pleasure to take it out and look at it. It is beautifully done and has a lot of details, and I look forward to finding needle and thread and embroidering LB’s initials on the “male” side. Of course, I won’t be doing that until after the christening, but I need to embroider my cousin’s initials before that, as they haven’t been done yet. There must be order in the tradition. I think it will be the task of this afternoon in the beautiful winter sunshine.

I love hearing about other families’ traditions. It is always lovely to listen to. We actually don’t have that many traditions regarding to baptisms. The only thing is really that the godparent always is of the opposite gender of the child. Do you have any traditions with regard to baptism or namegivings?

I don’t write (or craft for that matter) much these days, but somehow the news value of this isn’t great. Sometimes life takes over and demands the full attention. A little while ago, I hinted at some tings that was happening and taking up a lot of time and energy. Now I’m at liberty to tell some more about it, so that’s what I’ll do.

We’re now the owners of a pretty, new, red car, which already is a great favorite with all of us. It is wonderful to have fewer limits on our movements, and visiting friends and family is now no longer quite as complicated, as we don’t have to juggle the pram, tickets, train schedules and inevitable walks to get where we’re going. Now we just walk down to the car will all our gear and get going.

I’ve started a new job in the private sector. It is wonderful. Actually, it’s nothing short of fantastic. I’ve started on a fresh after a long period with stress, low self esteem, no belief and value of myself and my abilities, no happiness and satisfaction in the job, all of which made my work life pretty miserable. It is a good place. I have a leader, who actually sees it as one of his prime job functions to be a leader, I’ve got a job profile and tasks that fit me perfectly, and the place has a marvelous canteen (not to be sneezed at). It feels like someone has removed a very heavy load of my shoulders, and I’ve suddenly rediscovered the happy, gay, positive part of myself. There were moments in the last year, where I feared I had lost her forever.

The last thing is pretty much the best thing too. Though I’m very happy in my new job, I also look very much forward to taking a long break from it come October/November. Sometimes you’re lucky and things happen in the right order and at the perfect time, and I feel like that right now. MM doesn’t understand it yet, but the Mate and I are happy and looking forward to the time where we’ll be four here at home.

Interesting… you blink, and suddenly a week has passed without any blogging. It’s not because there hasn’t been anything to tell though. I have managed to get momentum on the last paper of my study and have made good thought progress with regard to my thesis. MM has started daycare, and so far it is fine. I have also knitted quite a lot, but nothing I can show so far. Something is on a deadline for gifts (and the recipient is suspected of reading the blog), another is a new design, and other things are even more secret…

But things are happening, and I hope I’ll be back after just a wee intermission more…  As a last note: remember to vote Sunday! (for the European Parliament)
